Constantine landed in Britain with 2000 men and overcame the barbarians already invading the Island's shores to become High-King.  He had three sons, Constans, Aurelius and Uther.   Upon Constantine’s death, Constans, being the eldest was persuaded to give up is monastic life by the people, but his heart was not in it, and he did not have the spirit to rule. He was later murdered and one of his young advisors claimed the throne, Vortigern.  Aurelius and Uther, who were too young to rule, were smuggled to Brittany, later to return and claim their family throne.

Vortigern, worried at the return of the brothers, unwisely enlisted the help of the Saxons to help defend his throne, and later went on to marry Rowena, daughter of the Saxon leader Hengist.

Aurelius, sometimes referred to as Ambrosius, and Uther, later returned to Britain and overthrew Vortigern, but he escaped and later in another battle Ambrosius was killed, leaving his brother Uther to take up the fight.

It was at this point that the Merlin we all know entered the story.  Vortigern could not build a tower; it kept collapsing, so his advisors told him that he needed the blood of a fatherless boy to mix with the mortar, thus making for a strong foundation.  Merlin was found and brought before Vortigern, but before he could be slain, Merlin told of two fighting dragons, in a pool beneath the hill upon which they were building. One white, the other red, which depicted the Saxons and Britain’s.

Now the rest you all probably know, Uther defeats the Saxons, claims the throne, beds Igraine, Arthur is conceived, grows up under Merlin’s guidance, then becomes King and that as they say, is history.

But what of the time before Arthur, what did Merlin do? Where did his travels take him, and who did he meet along the way?  That my friends, is where our story will take place, the story of Merlin; the story of the last Druid, and a story of a being driven by one sacred dream--to see Britain united under one just, powerful king.
